The organisation utilized a practice model, adapted from Fairbridge, known as Development Training or Adventure Learning.  This is a process of learning from experience involving the systematic and purposeful development of the whole person –body, mind and spirit – which CFY continues to use.  The learning is usually facilitated in groups where the learner undertakes a variety of tasks/activities reviews them in depth and draws conclusions which can then be applied in more everyday situations or “real life”.

In 1992 CFY became an independent charitable company limited by guarantee.

Challenge for Youth (CFY) exists to engage and support young people who for a range of reasons find themselves outside of, or excluded from mainstream / community youth provision.

CFY can be accessed directly by young people, through the street work or self-referral, via request from the community or through a statutory referral process.
